Clarity Cycle
I made this drink to celebrate #cleariceweek, using a homemade cube following the standard directional freezing method. I love the beauty and tastelessness of clear ice and find it to be a necessity in my home bar.
This drink is a riff on a Bananavardier, which is a darn good riff on a Boulevardier, which is my favorite whiskey take on a Negroni. Whew. The big change here is the base, which brings in a barrel-aged aquavit, as well as a unique rye whiskey, aged in amburana casks, bringing some heavy cinnamon notes. To elevate the anise accent in the aquavit, I split a little of the Campari with Strega. Last, a touch of coffee adds a nice bass note and a barely perceptible richness.
Recipe
0.5oz Rye barrel-aged aquavit (@nordenaquavit, gifted)
0.5oz Rye whiskey (@truestorywhiskey, gifted)
0.75oz Campari (@campariacademy_us)
0.25oz Strega (@strega1860usa)
0.5oz Banana liqueur (@tempus_fugit_spirits)
0.25oz Sweet vermouth (@carpanoantica)
2 dashes coffee bitters (@luxardousa)
Stir, strain dramatically over large clear ice. Garnish with a lemon twist. Cheers!!
